CAERNARFONSHIRE RIDING CLUB

SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2017

Well, the summer is galloping by quickly! I hope you’ve been out enjoying your horses & making the most of any sunshine. We have been busy in the CRC with lots going on & plenty of you taking part in our events! We have held a monthly flatwork clinic with Nicola Tustain, which have been very busy and very popular with the participants. We have also held cross country training sessions at Mostyn & more to come. The gridwork sessions with llystyn made way for an outdoor jumping session in July, which was excellent & well attended. The treasure hunt around Waunfawr, organised by Angie Williams was very well supported and we are planning another before the Autumn. Our big summer event was the Fun Day in June, held at Pat and Will’s lovely yard. The weather was kind and the day lived up to it’s name, very enjoyable. Sophie organised a fun trip to Bolesworth & assures me that people behaved themselves …most of the time! We are continuing with the monthly Horse agility practice sessions, and hoping to put on a competition before the end of summer. Members of our committee attended an equine first aid course, but please don’t give us reason to practice during club events!!

We try to let members know about our activities by newsletter, which is also copied onto our website caernarfonshireridingclub.co.uk Increasingly, we are organising and publicising events on our Facebook page. Apologies to those of you who are not “on” facebook, we do try our best!

As always, I must thank our hard working committee and all the members who turn up to help at our events. We have a friendly club, with something to offer everybody (we hope) This is what we have on the calendar for you over the next few weeks. See you there! Anita

SOCIAL EVENING at Y Galeri, Caernarfon. Thursday evening, August 17th at 7.30. Illustrated talk “WOMEN ON HORSEBACK” with Jocelyn Danby. £5 on the door, non-members welcome. Originally from Abergevenny, Jocelyn now lives in Inverness but has strong links with Gwynedd & has agreed to do this talk for us while she is here during August. Jocelyn is an instructor who has competed in many riding disciplines. She is a Master saddler and a qualified saddle fitter who specialises in side saddles. She has a great interest in the history of riding, and her talk touches on many aspects of equestrian history. The main focus is on the way women have ridden through history. The talk is relevant to all, but especially to those with an interest in side saddle riding. We have organised this at the Galeri, as our usual venue is busy with tourist trade in August. Thank you to Marjorie for organising this.

We will have a clinic in September and October too.

CROSS COUNTRY TRAINING SESSIONS with Paul Davies at Mostyn. Saturday August 12th and September 9th. (please note, the August date is already full) 2 sessions, morning 11-1 and afternoon 2-4 o’clock. TEAM DRESSAGE COMPETITION Sunday Sept 17th at Brynderw. Our team competitions are always good fun (and rather competitive!) Teams of FOUR riders and horses/ponies can be seniors or juniors or mixed. One rider to ride the intro, another the Prelim, another Novice & fourth member to ride the Elementary. Three best scores to count. Riders may also compete in another class as an individual. We respectfully ask that riders & horses who regularly compete at novice level & above! do not enter the intro class. This rule has worked for us in the past & gives the true novice riders/horses a chance to compete against similar abilities. Horse & rider combinations who are competing in the intro are welcome to compete as individuals in the prelim (but not the Novice or Elementary) thank you for respecting this request. The entry form is at the bottom of this page. Entry fee is £40 per team (£8 for individual class) Closing date is Weds 13th September. Please send entries early, it is nerve-wrecking organising these things & wondering if you should cancel !!!

This is the third and final competition to qualify for our unaffiliated CRC dressage championship in October.

FEEDING TALK by DENGIE feeds. September 21st Snowdonia Inn, Waunfawr at 7.30pm

This will be an exciting hands on session as they will be bringing a life size digestive system to highlight why what we feed is so important to our horses.

They will highlight laminitis and other health problems in the digestive system and showing the areas they affect.

We will also cover different sources of energy, the way they are broken down and highlighting which are the best feeds for different disciplines £5 per person. Why not arrive early and enjoy a nice meal with a group of friends before the talk starts, great excuse to get together. Sophie Bullman has kindly arranged this.
