CAERNARFONSHIRE RIDING CLUB

NEW YEAR NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2018

I hope your Christmas was good & let me wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope that 2018 will be a good one for your horsey activities. Last year was a VERY busy one for the club, and we topped the 80 members mark!! We must be doing something right!...Here’s a taste of the things we arranged for our members in 2017.

Once again, we ran a weekly shed session during the dark cold months; these are still a popular club activity. This winter we have already added an afternoon session, which has proved equally busy as our original Friday evening sessions.

Our monthly grid work sessions with Llystyn continue to be very popular; he has challenged us with lots of technical grids last year. We also arranged an outdoor “Riding a course” session with Llystyn, which was very well received & excellent preparation for jumping on grass.

We had monthly flatwork training sessions with Nicola Tustain during the year. These sessions were subsidized for our members, and have proved very popular. We have decided to continue with these over the winter months.

In June we arranged a First Aid course & now have five first aiders in the club, to help at our events (we really hope we never need to use them!)

Dressage continues to be very popular with our members, and we ran a team competition and individual dressage competitions. Our Fun Day lived up to its name, and was a lovely, busy day. We had our own dressage Championships in the Autumn (for those who qualified at our competitions) this was a huge success & we are hoping to do the same this year….so keep an eye open for our qualifiers.

All our competitions were very well supported, which makes all the hard work of organizing them worthwhile. We also ran a team show jumping show, which was great fun & we already have a date for a similar show this March.

Monthly horse agility sessions were organized, this is a great un mounted activity to do with your horse. The sessions will continue this year, but with a change of venue.

Trec is always popular at our Fun day, and we have organized indoor training and a competition for February.

We ran cross country sessions at Mostyn with Paul Davies, the weather was not kind to us, but this is such a good venue that we hope to organize some more sessions if the ground ever dries up! The club also ran a show jumping clinic with Joe Whittaker, which was very well supported & everyone enjoyed their lessons. We intend to run another clinic with Joe in late spring.

The big event was the Somerford Park club camp weekend in October, organized by Marjorie, lots of fun as always. This is a huge thing to organize & thanks to Marjorie and all her helpers, it was a joy for all of us lucky enough to go!

The club did have teams at the area 20 showjumping and representing us at cross country. This is an area we would like to expand this year, and send dressage teams too.

The social events were also very popular and well supported, with a Dengie feed talk (who could forget the life-size horse intestine!) The Women on horseback talk was also very good.

I would like to thank all of you who have brought delicious cakes to our shows, and been so willing to help out in lots of different ways..

The committee has decided that our training sessions will now be organized for CRC MEMBERS only. It was felt that a lot of effort goes into organizing events & with our increased membership now, they should have first opportunity to participate. Non-members will be invited to compete at our shows, but there may be an increased entry fee.

We have a new committee for this year,

Anita Long (Chairperson), Val Owen (secretary), Emma Edwards-Jones (treasurer), Nadia Turner (membership), Michelle Burton, Marjorie Wroe, Louise H, Lance Hesketh, Mel Davies, Charlotte Hawksworth & Sophie Bullman. A warm welcome to Laura Richardson and Kelly Hulse onto the committee.

With such a strong team, we have EVEN MORE ideas planned for our club this year! We hope to get some teams organized for Area 20 competitions. The committee has worked hard to build up club funds, and we’ve decided to continue offering some subsidized training sessions for CRC members. There are also some new group sessions with instruction, offering affordable training for our members. We hope you will find things that interest you on our calendar (this does tend to be the quiet season) and that you will continue to support the activities we plan for you.

THE SUBS ARE NOW DUE, we have kept senior membership at £20, and non-riding members are £15. The junior membership remains at £12. Membership forms are available on this website on the 'Join' page. All memberships (new and renewed) must send in a completed form please (even if details are the same) it’s the only way to make sure that our details are correct.

We aim to produce four newsletters per year, with details of forthcoming activities; these are emailed out to CRC members as well as being available on this page. Over recent years, many of our members also use the club’s Facebook page, and some activities are largely organized using our FB page. There is no doubt that it has greatly increased participation at our events.

Can I please request that members DON’T text or call the organizers very early morning or very late at night? We are all volunteers & need our beauty sleep to keep looking this good!
